FAQs About 40ft Containers
40ft containers offer double the internal length of a 20ft unit, making them suited to large storage volumes, freight and workshop conversions. They're commonly used on civil and mining projects where bulk storage matters, and for site facilities that need a larger floor area. United Rentals sells 40ft containers across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and regional locations. Learn more about 40ft containers in our FAQ section below.
40ft containers are used wherever maximum internal space matters. Common applications include bulk site storage on civil, mining and industrial projects, freight and logistics, workshop and equipment store conversions, larger site office and amenities fit-outs, and combined-use facilities that need separate rooms. The longer internal length suits storage of pipe, framing, scaffold and other long materials that won't fit in a 20ft container.
40ft containers are larger and heavier than 20ft units, so transport usually requires a 40ft tilt tray, semi-trailer or specialised container truck. Site access needs to allow for the longer vehicle, and the placement area needs to be clear and level for offloading. Confirm site access and delivery method with our sales team when arranging your purchase.
A standard 40ft container has the same height as a 20ft container — around 2.59 metres externally. A 40ft high cube container is taller, at around 2.89 metres externally, which gives roughly 30cm of additional internal height. High cube containers are useful for storing taller items, for workshop conversions where headroom matters, and for fit-outs with insulation that reduces the usable internal height. Check which option fits your application.
